Third suspect arrested in Moe's shooting

The third suspect in the Aug. 27 shooting death of a Morrow store clerk has been released from the hospital and booked into the Clayton County Jail.

James Bertram Hightower, 24, of Atlanta is charged with murder, armed robbery and aggravated assault in the botched robbery of Moe's Beer, Wine and Tobacco Outlet on Mt. Zion Boulevard. He is also being held on a probation violation.

Clerk Deon Causey, 29, died in a shootout with the three men, said Clayton County police. A second clerk and Hightower were also shot. Hightower was taken to Atlanta Medical Center where he was in critical condition for several days. The second clerk is expected to survive, said police.

Police said Hightower, Sheldon Emory Brown, 23, and Otis Jamal Parker, 22, robbed the store to get money to celebrate Parker's birthday. Brown and Parker were arrested Wednesday and are being held without bond in the Clayton County Jail.

Hightower made his first appearance in Clayton Magistrate Court Tuesday afternoon. He was denied bond.

Police said the robbery would have netted the trio less than $500.
