The political parties they affiliate themselves with are not known to often see eye-to-eye on issues, but two neighbors in Morrow, one a Republican and the other a Democrat, are planning to work together this weekend to honor the town's public-safety officers on the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
John Marxen, the Republican, said he and Vernon Harris, the Democrat, will be cooking lunch (with assistance from the Clayton County Republican Party) for employees of the Morrow police and fire departments on Sunday.
"[Sept. 11] should be a day to honor those that risk everything each day," Marxen said in an e-mailed statement.
Marxen added there will be a brief ceremony to commemorate the anniversary of the attacks, followed by the public safety employees being served burgers, hot dogs, sausage, baked beans, macaroni and cheese and cake. He added that he would like to see the 9/11 luncheon become an annual event.
Anyone who would like to help serve food at the luncheon may call Marxen at (770) 366-1585.
