Gene C. Smith, 63, of Stockbridge, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., on Sunday, Sept. 11, at Union United Methodist Church in Stockbridge, with Dr. Wallace Wheeles and Dr. Mike Cash officiating. Interment will follow at Union United Methodist Church Cemetery, in Stockbridge.

A native of Forest Park, Mr. Smith retired after 37 years of service with R. R. Donnelley. He was a Master Mason of the Panthersville lodge # 543 in 2007. Gene was a very active member of Union United Methodist Church and The Rockdale Democratic Party.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jane Y. Smith, of Stockbridge; children, Andrew W. Smith, of Stockbridge, Patrick (Lola) Smith, of Eatonton, Erin M. Smith, of Stockbridge; brother, Marion (Jean) Smith; grandchildren, Shalee Apple, Logan S. Smith, Jack C. Smith and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends TODAY (Saturday), from 2 p.m., to 4 p.m., and 7 p.m., to 9 p.m., at Horis A. Ward’s Rockdale Chapel.
