Clayton County police said a man died Saturday night after being shot during a botched drug deal in Jonesboro.
Warrants issued to police Detective Joanne Southerland allege Falonete "Tay" Singleton, 20, and four others arranged to buy drugs about 9:30 p.m. from an unidentified dealer.
Latisha Renee Robinson,18, of Riverdale, arranged the drug deal, said police, but when the plan evolved into an armed robbery, she and co-defendant Kianesha Jwana Darby, 21, of Jonesboro, left the area. Singleton, Charles "Pig" Reginald Hill, 28, and Josh "Cool" Dewayne Wilson, 21, both of Jonesboro, stayed to confront the dealer, said police.
When the dealer arrived, he saw Singleton holding a sawed-off shotgun and opened fire before fleeing, said police. Singleton died at the scene. Police said Hill took the gun Singleton was holding and gave it to Wilson to hide. Police recovered the shotgun, which had blood on it.
The four suspects were tracked down to Hill's Jonesboro apartment where police said they found Singleton's disassembled cell phone on a table inside the garage.
All four are charged with being a party to the crimes of murder and armed robbery. The men are also charged with tampering with evidence. They made their first appearances on the charges Monday afternoon in Clayton County Magistrate Court. None of them commented or questioned the charges.
Magistrate Richard Brown ordered the four held without bond in the Clayton County Jail.
Police are still looking for the shooter.
