Usually, when Majorie Lacy meets with Henry County Police Chief Keith Nichols, it is after one of his officers has brought her a bruised or battered woman for sanctuary. Sometimes, the women are accompanied by children.
Friday, things were different. Chief Nichols and other officers came bearing gifts.
Household goods of all kinds were donated to the domestic violence shelter. There were shower curtains, towels, rugs, bath mats, comforter sets, mattress pads, tablecloths, storage canisters, dishes, various type drinking glasses, silverware, a crock pot, a can opener, a blender, a coffee maker and a knife set.
"This is so nice, I'm so glad you all thought of us," said Lacy, who is executive director of Haven House.
"Maj. [Joe] Jackson and Lt. [Christy] Neble came to me with the idea, and I told them we will make it happen," Nichols said Friday.
"When they place a victim outside of the shelter these are the items they can use in their homes," said Lt. Neble.
"This is a good way to give something for a good cause," said Maj. Jackson.
The donated items were recovered by police following a fraud investigation, said Sgt. Mike Ireland.
Until recently, the items had been held as evidence.
