Women eligible for Medicaid and the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program are invited to a free health event this Friday, said a spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Community Health.
The women's health event will take place on Sept. 23 from 11 a.m., to 3 p.m. at The Mall West End at 850 Oak St., S.W. in Atlanta, said Pamela Keene. The mall is between Dunn Street S.W. and Lee Street S.W.
"This community-wide event will help women understand the types of programs available to them and their families to help them stay healthy," said Lyndolyn Campbell, program director for Women's Services for the department.
Experts will be present to answer questions and educate attendees about their options for affordable healthcare for themselves and their children, she said.
The topics that will be discussed during the seminar and workshops include WIC, breast feeding, food stamps, the Planning for Healthy Babies program, the Right from the Start Medicaid program and the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention, explained spokeswoman Keene.
She said the event will also have free health screenings for diabetes, high blood pressure and dental and vision, as well as more than 30 vendors throughout the mall. The main event will take place at the main stage.
The event is sponsored by Georgia Families, Amerigroup Corp., Peach State Health Plan and WellCare Health Plans Inc.
