Volunteers with the Henry County Humane Society are attempting to get several puppies into responsible hands. Members of the non-profit group are spreading the word, so several, small puppies, in need of homes and loving care, can find them.

The organization’s pets are given age-appropriate vaccinations, are spayed/neutered, dewormed and have had capstar or frontline applied. Dogs are heartworm-negative and microchipped, while cats are feline-leukemia (Felv) and feline-AIDS (FIV) negative.

McDonough resident, Elizabeth Shannon, is a volunteer with the Henry County Humane Society. She expressed the importance of vaccinating, microchipping and spaying/neutering one’s pets.

“The irresponsibility of pet ownership contributes to the explosion of stray pets,” said Shannon, who has adopted two pets from the Humane Society.

Humane Society volunteers said the eight puppies available to be adopted are small-breed canines, who will grow to weigh about 8 to 12 pounds. The pups are currently about two months old.

Four of them are likely Shih Tzu and Westie, mixed with terrier or chihuahua. The others look to be chihuahua, terrier mix, with black short hair. Some have white feet and white spots.
