A Stockbridge man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after a Clayton County jury found him guilty of murder.
Jason Leon Heywood, 26, was convicted Friday of the murder of Andrew Wilson. Wilson, 23, was killed April 28, 2010, during what police said was a drug deal gone wrong.
Co-defendant Claude Keith Hunter II, 24, of Hampton, testified against Heywood during last week's trial in Superior Court Judge Albert Collier's courtroom. Hunter pleaded guilty to armed robbery and concealing the death of another. He is awaiting sentencing.
Clayton Chief Assistant District Attorney Erman Tanjuatco said his office will recommend a sentence of at least 15 years with no chance of parole.
Police said Wilson was shot and killed during an April 28, 2010, marijuana transaction at a Stockbridge apartment complex. Witnesses told police Wilson took $1,300 with him to buy the drugs from the suspects. Only $200 was found inside the car Wilson had been driving.
The suspects fled the scene and were arrested later, said police. Hunter is being represented in court by Herbert Adams, Jr., and Heywood was being defended by W. Charles Lea.
