An Atlanta man, who was released from prison in August, has been charged in the recent carjacking and kidnapping of a woman from a Morrow gas station.
Demetrius Jernigan, 23, is being held without bond in the Clayton County Jail on those charges, and armed robbery.
Georgia Department of Corrections records show that Jernigan spent the past three years in prison for robbery by sudden snatching. He was released Aug. 1.
Clayton County police said Jernigan approached a 46-year-old woman at about 8:40 a.m., on Sept. 8, at the Citgo station on Mt. Zion Road in Morrow, and forced her into the passenger seat of her 2007 Ford Explorer.
Warrants allege that Jernigan showed her a gun and told her he would shoot her if she made a scene.
Police said he drove the woman to several stores to try to get money from ATM machines. After she got $200 from a BP station in Ellenwood, police said, Jernigan allegedly drove the woman to DeKalb County and raped her.
