The Bible clearly states in many scriptures that those who believe in God through Jesus Christ will go to heaven to be with Jesus when they die.
First John 5:13 says: "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life." John 3:16, a verse every Christian knows heart, says: "For God so loved the world (meaning you and me) that He gave His one and only Son so that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but would have everlasting life."
How long is "everlasting life?" It is eternal life, isn't it? Yes! And if we live eternally with our God, will we not be in Heaven? We certainly will!
I heard a fine man of God preaching the Word recently and he said –– as I have heard many times myself –– that a man told him he felt he was saved when he was a young boy, but later in life, he drifted away from God and the church and lost his salvation.
The preacher said when one is saved, he is always saved and he will not drift away or stop being a Christian or fall back into a life of sin. This is a doctrine of the Baptist Church, which all true Baptists believe, with all their heart. He further said that when we are saved, we will firmly hold on to the faith we have in Jesus Christ.
Jesus has said that He will hold on to us: "No man can take them out of my hand." This means we shouldn't worry about our not holding on to Jesus, because those who are truly saved — we who believe in Jesus Christ and put our trust and faith in Him — He will hold on to us!
Some have questions about having eternal life when they die, but do you know we have eternal life immediately when we choose Jesus as Our Savior and become a Christian. Yes! It is true that eternal life begins when we become a Christian. As we read in John 3:16: "Whosoever believes in Him would not perish but would have eternal life."
When we repent of our sins –– that is when we know and admit to God we have sin in our lives, and ask God to forgive our sins in Jesus' name –– then, right then, we start our journey with God, with Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Eternal life begins the moment we believe and trust Jesus Christ as our Savior. Then, we are Heaven bound, and we know it, because it is a promise from God.
I was sharing the gospel with a gentleman, recently, and as I finished the faith outline and asked him if he believed God's Word and His promise to save those who believed in Jesus, he said; "Yes, I believe and I want to be saved." I asked him if he would pray the Sinners Prayer with me, admitting his sin to God and asking for Him to forgive his sins in Jesus' name.
He prayed faithfully and felt God's forgiveness as the Holy Spirit came into his heart, giving him the assurance he was saved and forgiven. This is a wonderful experience for both the one being saved and the one sharing the gospel. The Bible says the angels sing and shout for joy when even one lost sinner comes to Jesus! Hallelujah!
We can be sure of going to heaven when we die, because the Bible tells us so. The Bible also says we can be sure of going to hell when we die, if we do not choose Jesus Christ and live for Him.
Every person in the world has a choice of either, going to heaven or hell, depending on their acceptance, or rejection, of Jesus Christ.
I pray you will choose Jesus!
