Lovejoy’s high spring yard sale underway


The Clayton County Board of Education will hold its monthly board meeting Monday, April 9 at 6 p.m., at the Clayton County Public Schools Administrative Complex, 1058 Fifth Avenue, in Jonesboro.


Mundy's Mill High School Parent Teacher Association will hold its monthly meeting April 11, at 6 p.m., at Mundy's Mill High School’s Lecture Hall, at 9652 Fayetteville Road, in Jonesboro.


The Clayton County Library System’s Lovejoy Branch will host “Spring Yard Sale” on Saturday, April 21, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Featured items may include gently used clothes, books, food and much more. Clayton County Public Schools will hold its third annual Promoting Student Achievement (PSA) Golf Tournament, on Friday, April 20, at Lake Spivey Golf Club, located at 8255 Clubhouse Way. The 18-hole contest will benefit the school system’s student scholarship fund and promote college enrollment. The cost to participate is $125 per individual, or $500 per four-member team. Payment must be received by Wednesday, April 18. The fee includes tournament play, a box lunch that is placed on golf carts, an awards dinner, and tournament gifts and prizes. Several levels of sponsorships are available that range from a low of $1,500 to a high of $5,000. Registration begins at 11 a.m., and is limited to the first 36 four-person teams. A shotgun start at noon will mark the beginning of the tournament, and a dinner and awards program will be held at 5 p.m., or at the completion of the contest. Individuals and teams wishing to play in the tournament, become a sponsor, or who need additional information, can contact Teri Rodgers, PSA Committee member, at (770) 473-2700.

Mundy’s Mill High School will host a “Community Day Saturday,” April 21, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Community Day will include, a yard sale on the school grounds starting at 7 a.m. Parents, faculty and staff will participate in the Comcast Cares, a day of volunteer service inside the school starting at 8 a.m. At 10 a.m., the school will host a parade to celebrate the Mundy’s Mill High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps championship win. Army National Guard Pvt. Marvella Reed has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, in Lawton, Okla. Reed is a 2006 graduate of Riverdale High School, and is the daughter of Kim Reed of Decatur.

Air Force Reserve Airman James Bohannon has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas. He is a 2005 graduate of Elyria High School, in Ohio, and is the son of Betty Bohannon, of Forest Park.


The Clayton County Public Library System offers many services to students, including online practice tests and tutorials in math, reading and writing, as well as test-preparation materials for the SAT, ASVAB, GED, TOEFFL, and Occupational Aptitude Tests.
