Jeff Hurndon Photography: Union Grove second baseman Cole Murphy signs a scholarship with Andrew College.
In the midst of a resurgence on the diamond, Union Grove baseball keeps adding to its total of seniors that have signed an athletic scholarship.
Wolverines seniors Cole Murphy, Austin Smith and Logan Smith signed scholarships last Friday. Murphy, a second baseman, signed with Andrew College, while both Smiths (no relation) signed with Georgia Gwinnett.
Andrew College is a two-year school that competes in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association. Murphy, a second baseman, will join former Ola standouts Ryan Arnold and Ryan Knight, who are freshmen with the Fighting Tigers.
Austin and Logan Smith will be a part of Georgia Gwinnett’s first year of athletics in the NAIA.
The three increase Union Grove’s total of signees this season to five. Catcher Michael McClellan signed with Georgia Southern during the fall signing period, while pitcher Travis Bergen signed with Kennesaw State.
The Wolverines are currently 13-4 overall, 8-1 in Region 3A-AAAA and ranked No. 7 in Class AAAA.
The senior signees have been playing on varsity since their sophomore years and were a part of Union Grove’s steady rise the past two seasons back to contention.
