Marcus Hunt, a Georgia Tech signee, was recently named the Class AAAA Player of the Year by the Georgia Sportswriters Association after leading North Clayton to the semifinals this past season.
Marcus Hunt, who was named the Georgia Sportswriters Association’s Class AAAA Player of the Year, heads a list of 15 area players named to the annual all-state team.
This past season, Hunt led North Clayton to its first region championship in 19 years and to the state semifinals. The 6-foot-6 Georgia Tech signee averaged 23.5 points and 14 rebounds for the Eagles.
Also named to the Class AAAA team was Lovejoy’s Justin Tuoyo and Jonesboro’s Patrick Petty, who were named to the second team. Making the honorable mention list were Jordan Faciane of Morrow, Jermaine Hough of Lovejoy and Jonesboro’s Cameron Sutton.
Sutton and Petty, both juniors, led the Cardinals to their second straight semifinal appearance.
In Class AAA, Drew coach Jarrod Davis was named the coach of the year after leading the Titans to their first finals appearance in school history. Drew lost to Columbia in the championship game.
Eagle’s Landing junior Eric Wortham was the lone area player named to the Class AAA first team. The forward averaged 14.8 points per game, but missed the last two games of the season after having a seizure at school.
Making the GSWA’s honorable mention team were Isaiah Dennis (Eagle’s Landing), Derrick Frye (Drew) and Dre Soulder (Henry County).
On the girls’ side, two players were named to the first team in their respective classification.
Ashlee Cole of Forest Park was named first team in Class AAAA while Precious Person was named to the AAA first team.
Cole, who averaged 19 points per game, has signed with High Point University while Person has signed with Rutgers.
Kimberly Dawkins, who helped Jonesboro to the AAAA semifinals, was named to the second team. Brianna McQueen of Mundy’s Mill, the Region 4-AAAA Player of the Year, was named honorable mention.
Luella senior guard Britney Guy was named to the Class AAAAA honorable mention team.
