Jonesboro coach Tim Floyd will take on his alma mater Westover this season in a non-region game in Albany on Sept. 7. It will be the first meeting between the two schools.
HOMECOMING: Jonesboro coach Tim Floyd will get to show off his team to his family and friends when the Cardinals make the trek to Albany on Sept. 7 to take on Westover.
Floyd graduated from Westover before attending college at Albany State.
NO BUSES NEEDED: Drew will be saving plenty of money in its athletic budget this season on transportation. Of its nine scheduled games, seven are at Southern Crescent Stadium, which sits on the school’s campus.
Only once will the Titans travel outside of Clayton County to play a game when it goes to Starr’s Mill in Fayette County for a Sept. 28 matchup. The team’s only other regular season game away from Southern Crescent Stadium will be against Mount Zion at Tara Stadium.
WELCOME BACK, COACH: When Spalding travels to Southern Crescent Stadium on Oct. 11 for a Thursday night match-up with Riverdale, it will be a homecoming of sorts for coach Nick Davis.
On two seperate stints, Davis lead the Riverdale program. He was coach of the Raiders from 2008-10 and from 2004-05.
During his tenure at Riverdale, the team had two playoff appearances.
WHAT’S THEIR NAME?: The season hasn’t started, but Jonesboro coach Tim Floyd is sticking to his tradition of not mentioning rival Mount Zion by name. On the Cardinals’ schedule, it says “The School Around the Corner” for the Aug. 31 matchup with Mount Zion at Tara Stadium.
RUNNING CLOCK: It is probably a good idea not to go to the concession stand too often when Dutchtown and Stockbridge meet on Oct. 19. With both teams being run-oriented, the game could get over fast.
