Several events are on the books in the coming months at a local non-profit facility, geared toward injured and neglected animals.
Noah’s Ark Animal Rehabilitation Center and Children’s Care Home, at 712 L.G. Griffin Road, in Locust Grove, recently announced its schedule for the spring and summer. The Ark will host an Arts & Crafts Fair on April 21.
“The arts and crafts fairs are slated for the third Saturday of the month, each month through September,” said Diane Smith, assistant to Noah’s Ark Director Jama Hedgecoth. “Noah’s Ark invites local craftspeople, artists, and even gardeners to bring their wares to sell.”
Additional arts and crafts fairs are scheduled for May 19, June 16, July 21, Aug. 18 and Sept. 15, according to Smith.
“Vendor tents will be placed directly across from the picnic area, where they will also be visible from L.G. Griffin Road,” she said.
Smith said the warmer months of the year typically bring larger crowds of people, to educate the public about animals at Noah’s Ark. This year, she said, has been no exception.
“We had huge Spring Break crowds, which is always exciting for us,” said Smith. “Right now is field-trip time, and we can get up to 400 kids a day.”
Noah’s Ark will also host its Noah’s Ark Adventure Safari overnight camps for the fourth year. They will be held June 1, and June 15.
“This is probably the event that is most fun for everyone, including staff,” Hedgecoth said. “This is a chance for people to come and see some of the ‘behind the scenes’ activities we do at Noah’s Ark, like feed the animals.”
Smith added that each safari will feature a night tour of the animal habitats, a bonfire wiener roast, and a continental breakfast.
“Guests are also treated to some reptile and primate encounters,” said Smith. “The cost is $100 per camper, [a] tax deductible donation. Family packages and group discounts are also available.”
