JONESBORO — Clayton County residents will have a chance to help decide what programs will be offered at a new recreation center opening in Lovejoy this fall.
The Clayton County Parks and Recreation Department will host three public input meetings in coming weeks regarding the center which is under construction at the Gerald A. Matthews Complex on McDonough Road.
The meetings will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at the Lovejoy Library, 1721 McDonough Road, Lovejoy; Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. at Panhandle Park, 10930 Panhandle Road, Jonesboro and Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. at the Jim Huie Recreation Center, 9045 Tara Blvd., Jonesboro.
“We are looking for public input on programming for the facility so it can open with the type of programs that residents want to see offered,” said Clayton County Vice-Chairman Wole Ralph.
Ralph, who represents south Clayton County, said the center is expected to open sometime between the beginning of October and the end of November. Amenities will include a splash pad, kiddie pool, outdoor play area and a computer room, he said.
Call the parks and recreation department at (770) 477-3766 for additional information about the new recreation center or the public input meetings.
