Leroy Foster named Morrow coach

Morrow finally has a football coach.

Leroy Foster is expected to sign his teaching contract this week.

A former state-championship winning head coach in Florida, Foster came to Morrow in the spring as part of Andre Pinkering’s staff. After Pinkering wasn’t given a teaching contract this spring, he returned to Alabama.

Foster worked with the team during the summer, but was limited to a spectator’s role when preseason practice begin last month because he didn’t have a contract.

“I would meet with the staff and implement things that needed to be done,” Foster said. “It has been a trying process for the kids. I think they just need some stability.”

Foster is the eighth hire for Morrow in the last 12 years for the once-proud program. Morrow was the last Clayton County school to win a state title in 1987, but has since fallen on hard times.

The program has had two winless seasons in the last three years and its last winning season was in 1998 when the Mustangs went 10-2 and reached the second round of the playoffs in Jerry Moore’s last season.
