JONESBORO — Clayton County police arrested two teenagers Wednesday after getting a call from neighbors about a burglary in progress.
Lt. Chris Windley said Deontavious Gregory Carter, 19, of Jonesboro, and Darious Sims, 19, of Riverdale, have been charged with burglary. Windley said the two are possible suspects in other burglaries in the area.
Neighbors called police just before noon Wednesday about a burglary in progress in the 8600 block of Walworth Court in Jonesboro, he said.
Officers arrived and were able to detain one suspect inside the home. The second suspect was arrested after a short foot chase, said Windley.
Windley said the arrest shows the benefits of community policing.
“The Clayton County Police Department would like to thank the citizens of Clayton County for their efforts in helping in this arrest,” he said. “This shows that our partnership with the citizens is vital.”
According to the Clayton County Superior Court records, Carter pleaded guilty in June 2011 to theft by taking and was sentenced to 12 months probation. Records show his probation was revoked in August 2011 and he was ordered to serve 10 months and 12 days in jail.
