JONESBORO — Acclaimed contemporary jazz artist Najee, along with Jeff Bradshaw and Avery Sunshine, will headline the Atlanta Contemporary Jazz and Neo Soul Festival Friday and Saturday at Clayton County International Park in Jonesboro.
Saxophonist Najee — who will close the festival Saturday night — has backed up singers like Chaka Khan, Prince, Freddie Jackson, Patti Labelle and Jeffrey Osborne. He’s also recorded with instrumentalists Herbie Hancock, Stanley Clarke, Larry Carlton and George Duke.
The festival will also feature popular local artists including Hank Stewart, Ryan Kilgore, Madoca, Simplicity, Gary Harris and Milk Shake.
In addition, the Forest Park High School band will play Saturday evening.
Part of the proceeds will help support the Clayton County Couoncil of PTAs, which will use the festival as an oportunity to donate musical instruments to local schools. Festival goers may donate gently used instruments at the park. Contributions are tax deductible.
The festival will run from 5:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. Friday and 11:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday. Ticket prices range from $10 to $50 and can be purchased at www.atlcontjazz.com, where a complete performance schedule is available.
