Pastor clarifies endorsement for Ralph

Powell: ‘Endorsement is from me, not ministers association’

JONESBORO — The leader of a local ministers association said Friday his endorsement for Clayton County Board of Commissioners Vice-Chairman Wole Ralph’s re-election bid represents his personal beliefs and not his organization's.

Ralph recently told Clayton News Daily he had received an endorsement from Clayton County Christian Ministers Association President Pastor Arthur Powell, among other community leaders. Ralph is facing attorney Shana Rooks in a run-off for the District 3 commission seat. The race will be decided Tuesday at voting precincts across the county.

Powell said despite his leadership position in his group, the ministers association has not come out in support of any candidate for public office. He is, however, personally endorsing Ralph. Confusion over his endorsement has created grief within the organization, he said.

“I, as an individual, support Wole Ralph, but our organization does not endorse any candidates,” Powell said.
