Library supporters readying for monthly book sale

— JONESBORO — Retro is the new “new.”

At least it is when one is talking about book sales in the Clayton County Library System.

The county’s Friends of the Library group is preparing to hold one of its monthly used book sales this weekend to help raise funds for the library system. It will be held Friday from 1 p.m. until 5:30 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., at the Headquarters Library, located at 865 Battle Creek Road in Jonesboro. Library officials stress that the sale will not begin before 1 p.m.

The sale is, in a way, the library supporters’ way of living by the environmentally conscious motto of recycle, renew and reuse.

The books on sale are all literary pieces that have already been read by someone at least once. They get donated to the Friends of the Library so they can be sold to people who have not yet read the books, thereby giving them new life and usefulness.

The sales are usually held during the last weekend of the month. The proceeds, according to the library system’s website, are used to buy equipment, fund children’s educational programs and help pay for the summer reading program.
