LAKE CITY — Clayton County’s smallest city is getting ready to join its bigger siblings on the Internet.

Lake City Staff Assistant Timothy Hoyle is working with two Clayton State University students to build the city’s first website. He said the website is expected to go online “probably around mid-October.”

Once it is launched, Hoyle said residents will be able to pay traffic tickets, file complaints and read city announcements, city council meeting agendas and minutes and write-ups on Mayor Willie Oswalt and council members. It will also include features on Lake City’s new community center, the Georgia Archives and the National Archives at Atlanta, said Hoyle.

“We’re just now getting content together and uploading it to the site,” he said.

Simeon Payne and Courtney Wynn, the students working with Hoyle, work in Clayton State’s HUB computer help desk office. Working with them, Hoyle said, has allowed the city to develop a website for less than $1,500.

“We went through a whole process of looking for vendors and we found some professional website designers and developers but we wanted to go this route, with the students, for affordability,” said Hoyle. “They convinced us they could do just as good a job as if we spent $5,000 to $10,000 or more.”

Hoyle said the city reserved several Internet domains for the website including lakecityga.net and lakecityga.us, but the town may end up using lakecityga.org.
