COLLEGE PARK Grammy Award-winning blues guitarist Robert Cray will headline the sixth annual Cityfest Saturday at the Georgia International Convention Center.
Cray, a Columbus, Ga., native, has performed with everyone from Eric Clapton to Fleetwood Mac. He achieved mass recognition when his song “Smokin’ Gun” crossed over and became a Top 40 hit in 1986. Cray’s latest album, “Nothin’ But Love,” will be released Aug. 28.
Mixx Master Mitch, billed as “the bad boy of old school music,” will return as master of ceremonies for this a free event, a traditional showcase of jazz, blues, rock and gospel.
College Park officials said they expect the event to draw up to 2,000 people, making it one of the leading indoor music festivals in metro Atlanta.
In addition to music, Cityfest will feature a health fair, an array of local vendors and an expanded children’s area with an inflatable jumping gym and rock-climbing wall. College Park Fire Rescue will conduct fire safety classes for children, and free back-to-school supplies will be provided.
College Park Mayor Jack Longino and members of city council will hold a special recognition ceremony for local community leaders and volunteers.
