MORROW — It was a simple request at the end of a Morrow Downtown Development Authority meeting, but it could give the city’s leading economic development body a better idea of who is doing business in the city.
The development authority asked city planning and economic development Director Michael McLaughlin this week to begin presenting retailer reports at its meetings. The reports would include which retailers have moved to the city, and which have left, since the previous authority meeting.
“We see people working on these buildings in the city and we wonder — or at least I wonder — what’s going on,” said authority member Terry Mobley to McLaughlin. “Everybody says, ‘You ought to know that,’ but we don’t know that.”
McLaughlin agreed to begin presenting those reports. He told authority members he has made attempts to do something similar — yet on a limited scale — in the past, but he said he was willing to expand it in the future.
“I have done a little bit of that in the past, just to give you the major [moves], and that’s been sort of the point of the permitting status with 50 permits a month,” said McLaughlin.
