JONESBORO — Wanting to give promotions a bit more pomp and circumstance, Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services tried something different Friday and held its first formal promotions ceremony.
The fire department recognized 54 firefighters and paramedics who were promoted to the ranks of sergeant, TAD sergeant, lieutenant, TAD lieutenant, TAD captain and TAD battalion chief at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center. Much like a graduation, each promoted firefighter and paramedic was called up individually, shook hands with fire Chief Jeff Hood and posed for photos with department leaders.
Family members, meanwhile, snapped pictures. All of the promoted officers posed for one large group photo afterward.
“To my knowledge, it’s the largest group in a formal setting,” said Hood. “There’s been piecemeal, one or two here and there but its never been in a formal setting. It’s usually been a call to the chief’s office. That’s something I changed. I said we’ll wait and have a ceremony. I think it’s important enough that we want to recognize them this way.”
The promotions include:
