STOCKBRIDGE — Behind clutch free throw shooting from Lindsey Reed, Woodland girls basketball survived for a 57-50 victory over Jonesboro in a Region 4-AAAA game Tuesday.

Reed scored a game-high 21 points for the Lady Wolfpack (5-1, 3-0) and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the closing minutes of the game.

Nicole Findura was the only other Woodland player in double figures with 11 points.

Woodland knew it needed a win against Jonesboro, a semifinalist last season, after fellow region member Dutchtown defeated the Lady Cardinals last Friday.

“It was kind of lose-lose for us,” Woodland coach Ashley Maddox said. “The Dutchtown win showed Jonesboro is beatable. ... We had to get this win. I give credit to the girls.”

Jonesboro was led by Briana Benson’s 15 points, while Victoria Florence added 11 points. Lady Cardinals center Kim Dawkins was held to five points and just one field goal.

Henry County 67, Eastside 66

The Lady Hawks overcame a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to earn their first victory of the season.

Henry County (1-1) got 20 points from Taylor Cistrunk and Raven Boswell added 10 to help the Lady Hawks bounce back from a season-opening loss to Dutchtown last Saturday.

Jazzmine Cook led Eastside (2-3) with 25 points.

Upson-Lee 42, Locust Grove 39

The Lady Wildcats missed a shot from behind the three-point arc in the waning seconds and lost in a Region 4-AAAA game.

Taylor Delasbour led Locust Grove (0-6, 0-3) with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Sabiyah Broderick had her sixth-straight double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Brittney Acey led Upson-Lee (2-2) with 11 points.

BOYS

Jonesboro 41, Woodland 32

Casey Wells scored seven points and Cameron Sutton added eight points and five rebounds to lead the Cardinals.

With the win, Jonesboro improves to 3-1 heading into Saturday’s game against Mount Zion.

Northgate 57, Ola 50

The Mustangs suffered their third straight loss despite 12 points from Coleman Seabolt.

Andrew Caldwell added 10 points for the Mustangs, who hit seven 3-pointers in the game.

Luella 59, Rockdale County 58

Lions senior point guard Nyrryk Evans hit the game-winning shot to give Luella a Region 2-AAAAAA win.

Evans led Luella (4-0) with 18 points and eight assists.

Starr’s Mill 61, Union Grove 59

The Wolverines lost their second straight game in a close Region 4-AAAAA contest.

Union Grove dropped to 4-2 overall and 0-2 in the region.
