MORROW— Santa Claus and his helpers are preparing to visit Morrow Elementary school for an annual Christmas party.

Morrow Police are scheduled to host a Christmas event Dec. 12, from 6 p.m., to 8 p.m., at Morrow Elementary School located at 6115 Reynolds Road.

“Every year we purchase Christmas presents for a lot of the students,” said Morrow Police Detective Sgt. Larry Oglesby. “Ms. Burroughs and the teachers compile a list of students’ names for the gifts. These are children that need assistance with clothing, winter coats and toys.”

“We feel very privileged that Morrow police department is working with the Morrow Elementary School again,” Burroughs said. “We look forward to another exciting event next week.”

Oglesby said the families are sent invitations to attend the party, where their children will be given Christmas gifts. Santa Claus and his helpers will be on hand to help youngsters take pictures with Santa.

“We do this because we believe it’s something positive for the kids,” Oglesby added. “There are so many young children that would not have a merry Christmas if we didn’t have this party.”

Friday, Morrow police chief administrative assistant, Laura Troutt and Santa’s helper, Shawndrell Martin wrapped Christmas gifts for the party.

Troutt said this is her seventh year working with the annual Christmas Party.

“I do this because I love seeing the kids faces when they open their gifts,” Troutt said. “Eventhough the Morrow Police Department coordinated the event, it is the citizens and all of the city employees that donate their time and monies to make it happen.”
