JONESBORO — Clayton County police have charged a man with murder following the results of a toddler’s autopsy.
Clayton County Police Lt. Chris Windley said Kemra Nesta Matthews was arrested Wednesday and charged with killing 2-year-old Jalen Harvey.
“After reviewing the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s autopsy report, witness statements and evidence from the scene, warrants were obtained [Tuesday] against Matthews for murder, aggravated assault and cruelty to children,” Windley said.
The incident happened July 11 in unit 11-B at the Marquis Grande Apartments, located at 6726 Tara Blvd., in Jonesboro.
Matthews, 30, was baby sitting for his live-in girlfriend when paramedics were called to the apartment complex.
Matthews was in the Clayton County Detention Center at the time of his arrest. He was initially charged with child cruelty charges, after police said he abused the other children in the same home at the time of the incident.
