JONESBORO Although Christmas is Dec. 25, Clayton County commission Chairman-elect Jeff Turner will be in a festive mood a few days early.
That’s because Turner will be sworn in as the new leader of county government during an inauguration ceremony set to take place Dec. 22. The ceremony will begin at 6 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, which is located at 147 Church St. A reception will follow, at 7 p.m., at the Clayton County International Beach VIP Complex. The complex is located at 2300 Ga. Hwy. 138, in Jonesboro.
However, Turner is not the only new member of the county commission preparing to be sworn in during the next week. District 3 Commissioner-elect Shana Rooks will be sworn in Dec. 21 at New Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, which is located at 7725 Ga. Hwy. 85, in Riverdale. Rooks’ swearing in ceremony will begin at 7 p.m.
Turner and Rooks will officially take office Jan. 1.
