Forest Park goes for morning meeting

City council to try A.M. sessions

FOREST PARK — The Forest Park City Council unanimously voted to conduct morning work sessions on the days it holds regularly scheduled city council meetings Monday.

The council will continue to meet every first and third Monday for its regular meetings. On those same days, the council will hold work sessions at 10 a.m., on a trial basis.

Forest Park City Manager John Parker said the measure was taken to accommodate some of the city’s elderly residents. He said moving the work sessions is an attempt to provide a venue for residents to be informed about the city’s activities.

“We have had some elderly people that cannot drive at night, due to some type of physical impairment,” said Parker. “They felt like they were being left out from all of the meetings that were scheduled in the evenings.”

The first Forest Park City Council morning work session meeting is scheduled for Jan. 7, at 10 a.m. Later the same day, at 7 p.m., the city council will meet to hold its regular council meeting.

“At the evening meetings, the council will be available to discuss agenda items or concerns before the meeting convenes,” Parker said. “It was a consensus of the council to try this for a couple of months to see if it works. If it does not work, we will revert back to the old schedule.”

Parker said by the end of February, the city council will make a decision if it will continue the morning meetings.
