Clayton County District Health Director Dr. Alpha Fowler Bryan presented Clayton County Board of Commissioners Chairman Eldrin Bell with a plaque thanking him for his years of service as the chairman of the Clayton County Board of Health. The plaque was presented to Bell during his final meeting as the Board of Health’s chairman Dec. 18.
JONESBORO With Eldrin Bell’s tenure as chairman of the Clayton County Board of Commissioners set to end next week, his departure from elected office will be felt beyond the county commission’s dais.
Bell will also leave his post as chairman of the Clayton County Board of Health at the same time. Health board spokesman Joel Hall said by law the county commission chairman simultaneously serves as chairman of the Clayton County Board of Health. That means the Dec. 18 Board of Health — the last meeting of the board for 2012 — was also Bell’s last meeting as the head of the health board.
As the board finished its business, Clayton County District Health Director Dr. Alpha Fowler Bryan presented Bell with a plaque to honor his eight years with the health board, Hall said. County commission Chairman-elect Jeff Turner is expected to become the health board chairman in January, when he takes office.
