After reaching the Class AAAA finals last season, former Wildcat defensive back Jermaine Hough was named the top defender in that class. This past season, the Jacksonville State freshman was named the top freshman in the Ohio Valley Conference.

After a spectacular senior season, which included him making 123.5 tackles and 41 tackles for loss, Norwood was recently named the Clayton News Daily’s Clayton County Defensive Player of the Year. He also had 16.5 sacks and 63 quarterback hurries.

In all, 15 players from Clayton County made the annual GSWA all-state team, which was chosen by sportswriters from around the state. Lovejoy produced the most all-state players with 10 from its state runner-up season.

Also making the first team from Lovejoy was offensive lineman Randy Robinson and defensive back Brandon Davis.

Making the second team was record-setting running back Travis Custis and Arshad Jackson at tight end. Senior offensive lineman Montell Robinson-Beasley was also named to the second team.

On the defensive side, Veion Robinson was named second team defensive lineman.

The honorable mention team for Class AAAAAA included Lovejoy teammates Alejandro Bennifield (quarterback), Eugene Fuller (linebacker), and JuMichael Ramos (wide receiver).

Making the honorable mention Class AAAAA team was Ben Kittler, a senior linebacker at Drew.

In Class AAAA, Jonesboro senior Cameron Sutton was named first team return specialist.

Making the second team on defense was Cardinals teammate Quinton Edwards at linebacker. Riverdale senior linebacker Troy Wyche was named to the second team.
