BOC will vote on firing of Wade Starr next week

Commission will also vote to abolish county manager slot, create chief operating officer

— One of the Clayton County Board of Commissioners first acts of business after welcoming two new members will be to take a vote on firing County Manager Wade Starr, according to an agenda for the meeting released late Friday.

The agenda includes two resolutions dealing with Starr and his position. One resolution is to "terminate the employment agreement with Wade Starr." The other is for "the abolishment of the position of County Manager."

The commission will vote to create a new chief operating officer position as well. In a separate vote, the BOC is expected to vote to create a chief financial officer position.

In other action, the commissioners will vote on several resolutions to outline who is authorized to sign checks on the county's behalf, call for a forensic audit and rename the Wole Ralph Recreation Center the Lovejoy Recreation Center.

I wouldn't characterize it as "firing". The position is simply being eliminated administratively. It is tragic that Mr. Starr is coincidentally in that chair at this time but its only business now isn't it?

The action itself was requested of the Commission by Mr. Starr on 4 Dec. 2012 so he is no victim here"

"5. Mr. Hancock presented a matter on behalf of Wade Starr, County Manager. Mr. Starr asked that his contract be modified to reflect that the Board must notify him no later than 5:00 p.m. on January 16, 2013, as to whether or not his contract will be renewed or extended when it expires on June 30, 2013. Commissioner Singleton motioned (seconded by Vice-Chairman Ralph) to modify Mr. Starr’s contract as so noted. The motion carried 3-1. Chairman Bell opposed." http://www.claytoncountyga.gov/pdfs/temp/12042012psm.pdf

With time in service, should Mr. Starr decide to retire from County duty he will do so at 90% of salary. Hardly a sad sum.

It would however be interesting yet unlikely if Mr. Starr is resurrected to an After-Life 2.0 say in a Water Authority Position? Unlikely in that the votes are currently against Mr. Starr from joining however a certain 3 Commissioners on the old BOC did try to pack the Water Authority Board didn't they? I don't know myself but I hear that there are a lot of bonds over there.

....This is the first test for the commissioners.

.......I would give Starr his walking papers, and then, I would have Porter looking for another job, in another county......This would be my very first order of business.

Glad to hear it. It's about time. Hope they decide to give the rec center a name concerning Lovejoy. Even though it's in Ralph's district, no one would know where it was. Lovejoy deserves that much. I work in the area and so many people have been asking.

They should have fired Wade Starr a long time age. He abuses his office getting 12 family members jobs in the county, three at the Charlie Griswell center. They county could use the salary he makes in better places. Wole Ralph was a joke as a commissioner he did not own property in the county and was arrested for DUI over a year ago and still has not gone to court. He was supposed to be active with Mothers Against Drunk Drivers. Noting in this county should bear his name.

PS: A rec center should never be named after a politician who disgraced himself in public office. That should be renamed pronto!
