COLLEGE PARK — An 18-year-old man, repeatedly charged for baggage theft since the summer of 2011, is facing those charges again.

Devonte M. Lightning made his first appearance in Clayton County Magistrate Court Friday, after he was arrested for stealing luggage at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. Lightning appeared before Magistrate Judge Richard C. Brown to answer the charge of unlawful removal of baggage. Brown set a $10,000 bond for Lightning.

Lightning, 18, was arrested Thursday at 2 p.m., inside the airport’s south terminal, located at 6000 South Terminal Parkway, according to the arrest warrant.

“[Lightning] took a piece of luggage from carousel eight in the Delta terminal and attempted to leave the airport,” said the arresting Atlanta Police officer, Q. Brodie.

Lightning has an extensive arrest record in Clayton County, which includes numerous accounts of the same charge along with other theft charges.

• On June 29, 2011, he was charged with eight counts of baggage removal and eight counts of theft by taking.

• On Nov. 30, 2011, he was charged with three counts of baggage removal.

• On March 27, 2012, he was charged with five counts of baggage removal, two counts of taking baggage and five counts of theft by taking.

....Welcome To Atlanta's Airport.

....It's not uncommon for passengers to have their baggage stolen, in Atlanta. The Airport finds it more infeasible to pay off lost baggage claims, than to hire more security guards.
