A car crash victim is life-flighted to Atlanta Medical Center after being extricated from the car by Clayton County firefighters.
JONESBORO — Two men were life-flighted to a local hospital after driving into a tree Monday.
Clayton County Fire Capt. Walter Barber said the single-car accident occurred around 1 p.m., at Thomas Road and North Pond Road near Pointe South Elementary school.
Barber said the unidentified male victims were flown to Atlanta Medical Center in Emory Hospital helicopters and are in critical but stable condition. Their car ran off the road and flipped over.
“They had to be extracted,” Barber said. “They were pinned inside the car.”
Fire ground crews were on hand to ensure safety as the helicopters landed and as they took off. Firefighters and medical technicians worked with the helicopter’s flight crew to roll the patients from the ambulance into waiting helicopters.
Clayton County Police spokesperson C. Ashmore said the car the men were in “ran into a tree.”
Police are investigating to determine the cause of the accident, she said.
