Special Photo: Henry County firefighters responded to a commercial structure fire at Hudson Self Storage, in Stockbridge, Thursday night. Henry County 911 received several calls reporting smoke coming from the storage facility. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Henry County firefighters are investigating an overnight blaze that destroyed 200, to 400 units, at Hudson Self Storage.

The facility included some “Gone With the Wind” memorabilia, along with the personal belongings of many Henry County residents.

The units experienced smoke, fire, and/or water damage, officials said.

There were no injuries reported during the fire at 1461 Hudson Bridge Road. The cause is under investigation, said Henry County Fire Capt. Sabrina Puckett.

The property manager and his family, living on site, were displaced. The American Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the family of four, according to Puckett.

“We remain hopeful that our damage is minimal,” said Rebekah Cline, the marketing and communications director of the Clayton County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

“We did have primarily posters stored at the Hudson Storage,” she said. “Fortunately for us, the majority of our most valuable items were safe in the Road to Tara Museum [in Jonesboro] ... such as original props and wardrobe items, as well as first editions of ‘Gone With the Wind’ books,” added Cline.

“From what we understand from the fire department, the fire began in the upper portion of the storage facility, and we lease a unit in the lower portion of the facility,” said Cline.

Capt. Puckett said the blaze started Thursday night, around 10 p.m.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation,” she said.

In a related matter, the Storage Neighbor is offering two months of free storage at its Stockbridge and Jonesboro locations, to tenants who have been affected by the fire at Hudson Self Storage.

“The Storage Neighbor is deeply saddened by the devastation caused by the fire in Stockbridge,” said Neil Sapra, president of the Storage Neighbor. “This was an unfortunate incident that has happened. I understand some families are going to be in a period of transition. We are happy to offer two free months of storage.”

Sapra said Hudson Self Storage customers should bring a copy of their lease, in order to receive the free offer. The rental space offer is good until the end of February, said Sapra. Contact the corporate office, he said.
