Lovejoy senior Jermaine Hough was recently named the Class AAAA South Player of the Year by the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association.
Jermaine Hough, who helped lead Lovejoy to its first championship game, was named the top defensive player in Class AAAA by the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association.
The 5-foot-9 defensive back was selected the GACA South Defensive Player of the Year in Class AAAA. He is one of five players to be named to the recently released GACA Coaches Choice All-State team.
Joining Hough, a Jacksonville State signee, were defensive teammates Rico McWilliams and Nathaniel Norwood.
Junior running back Travis Custis of Lovejoy also made the first team. This past season, he rushed for 1,839 yards and 30 touchdowns.
Named to the Class AAA team was former Henry County quarterback Chris Moody. The South Carolina signee passed for 1,475 yards and rushed for 1,064 in leading the Warhawks to the second round of the Class AAA playoffs. He was also named the Region 4-AAA Player of the Year and the Clayton News Daily/Henry Daily Herald Henry County Player of the Year.
Hough, who was chosen the Clayton News Daily/Henry Daily Herald Clayton County Player of the Year, recorded 82 tackles and seven interceptions as the Wildcats finished state runner-up to Tucker.
McWilliams, also a South Carolina signee, had 41 tackles and two interceptions with 18 pass breakups this past season.
Norwood, a junior, finished with 100 tackles, including 39 tackles for losses and 13.5 sacks. He is competing this weekend in the state wrestling finals.
