A Jonesboro woman recently won $1 million through the Georgia Lottery, according to a lottery spokeswoman.
Tandi Reddick said Ellen Thomas played “Extreme Green,” a lottery instant game and won the jackpot sum.
Thomas bought the prized ticket at Fuel Source Market at Jodeco, at 1150 Jodeco Road in Stockbridge, Reddick said.
“Thomas claimed her prize, Monday, at Georgia Lottery headquarters,” said the spokeswoman.
The winner was unavailable for comment, because she was at work, according to a family member.
The headquarters is located in Atlanta, according to the Georgia Lottery web site, www.galottery.com.
Since its inception, Georgia Lottery Corporation has given back more than $13.1 billion to education in the state, said Reddick. The profits gained by the lottery benefit Georgia educational programs, such as the Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program, she said.
She said more than 14.1 million students have received the HOPE scholarship and more than 1.1 million 4-year-old youngsters have attended the state’s voluntary pre-kindergarten program.
