The Clayton County Parks and Recreation Department will host its third Annual Scholarship opportunity for an educational trip to Jekyll Island, Ga. This scholarship is designed for seventh-grade and eighth-grade students who reside in Clayton County. Students will write a 250-word, or less, essay about an outdoor activity they wish to participate in (must choose from a designated list outlined by the Georgia Children's Outdoor Bill of Rights). The Parks and Recreation Department will accept applications now, through April 30, 2012. Clayton County Public Schools' Pre-K registration for the 2012-2013 Pre-k Lottery will be held at each Pre-k site, Monday, March 5, through Friday, March 9. The child must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, to qualify for Georgia's Pre-K Program. Regular registration hours are 8:30 a.m., to 11:30 a.m., and 1 p.m., to 4 p.m., on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Extended registration hours are Thursday, March 8, from 1 p.m., to 6 p.m. Acceptance into Clayton County Public Schools' Pre-k classes will be based on a “computer-generated” lottery system for each site, with priority given to children residing within the individual school attendance areas. Parents may register their child for only one Clayton County Public Schools Pre-k site.
The Clayton County Public Library System offers many services to students, including online practice tests and tutorials in math, reading and writing, as well as test-preparation materials for the SAT, ASVAB, GED, TOEFFL, and Occupational Aptitude Tests.
