The Department of Guidance and Counseling of Clayton County Schools will host a “parent meeting,” Thursday, Jan. 5, at 6 p.m., at The Professional Learning Center, located at 1087 Battle Creek Road, Jonesboro. The Clayton County Board of Education will hold its board meeting Monday, Jan. 9, at 6 p.m., at the Clayton County Public Schools Administrative Complex, 1058 Fifth Ave., in Jonesboro.
Tuesday, Jan. 10
Clayton County Public Schools Informational Sessions will be held Tuesday, Jan. 10. The sessions will inform the public on issues facing the system, which include: IE? vs Status Quo Charter; High School Math; College/Career Readiness. The forums will be from 6 p.m., to 8 p.m., at North Clayton High School, Morrow High School, Mundy’s Mill High School, and Jonesboro High School.
Wednesday, Jan. 11
The Clayton County Fatherhood Initiative Partnership will offer free math tutoring, starting Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 5:50 p.m., for second-grade, through eleventh-grade students. The tutoring will be held at 6030 Highway 85, Suite 204, McElroy’s Plaza, in Riverdale. For information, call (678) 833-9172.
The Five Hundred Men Standing In the GAP Conference, will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, at 9 a.m., at Mundy's Mill High School, 9652 Fayetteville Road, in Jonesboro. The meeting is open to students in elementary and high school. For more details, call (678) 817-3000.
Air Force Reserve Airman Olivia Edwards has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas. Edwards is a 2006 graduate of S.H. Rider High School, and is the sister of Nina Price, of Jonesboro.
Peter Jin Guo You, of Jonesboro, was named to the Union University Dean’s list for the fall 2011 semester. The Dean’s list includes full-time students who achieve a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Union University is located in Jackson, Tenn.
Clayton State University Health Services (UHS) is offering flu shots for the Clayton State, and surrounding, communities. No appointment is necessary for the shots, which can be administered to individuals, age 3 years old, and older. Costs are: Clayton State students, faculty, staff, and family members –– $15. The Clayton County Public Library System offers many services to students, including online practice tests and tutorials in math, reading and writing, as well as test-preparation materials for the SAT, ASVAB, GED, TOEFFL, and Occupational Aptitude Tests.
