Delta Community Credit Union increased its community-involvement efforts in 2011 with new fund-raisers and additional community partners. Children’s Miracle Network, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, area high schools, and other youth-centered organizations received nearly $424,000 in financial donations from Delta Community, according to its officials.
The not-for-profit financial cooperative has had a long-standing relationship with Children’s Miracle Network and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta through the nationwide program, Credit Unions for Kids.
“We are champions of charities that benefit children, both physically and financially, and we have found that many of our members and employees have seen, first-hand, the effects of this outstanding organization,” said Rick Foley, president and CEO of Delta Community.
The company raised more than $285,000 in funds through Atlanta initiatives that were earmarked for the Pediatric Trauma Center of Georgia, which supports more than 23,000 trauma patients each year.
“Helping the lives of Georgia families come together supports our philosophy of people helping people, and we are dedicated to that legacy,” added Foley.
Through local and out-of-state branch fund-raising initiatives, last year, Delta Community donated almost $58,000 to American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. In an effort to garner more support for Relay for Life by getting members involved, Delta Community’s Atlanta employees organized their first credit union-wide raffle, with proceeds benefiting metro Atlanta Relay for Life chapters.
Delta Community’s “Serve & Deserve” program, now in its third year, is a unique and innovative fund-raising program that gives high school student clubs and sports teams the opportunity to raise money for charitable organizations, while in turn receiving matching, in-kind donations for their schools. In 2011, local schools presented checks in excess of $156,000 to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Relay for Life, the Rally Foundation and the March of Dimes.
