The Clayton County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for the year's first citizens academy.
The Sheriff's Citizens Academy allows members of the community to get a comprehensive overview of the duties and responsibilities of the Clayton County Sheriff's Office. Participants will take an 11-week journey through the judicial system, from the streets, to the courts.
They will also get a bird's-eye view as they participate in limited training exercises given to the men and women who are sworn to protect the community.
The first class will begin Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 6:30 p.m., at the sheriff's office, which is located at 9157 Tara Blvd., Jonesboro. Classes will convene each Tuesday from 6:30 p.m., to 9 p.m., and conclude April 10.
Classes will be taught throughout the year, and class sizes are limited to 25 seats per class.
For an application, or for additional information, contact the sheriff's office at (770) 471-1122, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m., to 5 p.m.
