Monica Johnson correctly spelled “lectern,” and “abduction” in succession to win the 2012 Henry County Spelling Bee, held Friday at the Henry County Performing Arts Center in McDonough. As the bee’s winner, she earned a spot in the Georgia Association of Educators-sponsored District Five Spelling Bee on Feb. 25, at Mundy’s Mill Middle School, located at 1251 Mundy’s Mill Road, in Jonesboro.

A College Park man got 205 years in prison after being found guilty of pouring gasoline on his girlfriend in their apartment’s bathroom, and setting her on fire during a fit of jealous rage.

Piedmont Henry Hospital wins patient safety award

Piedmont Henry Hospital has earned recognition at the state level, for helping patients with ulcers. The Stockbridge facility recently won the 2011 Josh Nahum Quality and Patient Safety Award from the Partnership for Health and Accountability.
