Second Peter 3:10 says: “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.”

Peter goes on to say, “since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be?” Verse 13 says: “But in keeping with His promise, we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.” In such a time, the only safe place to be is in Jesus Christ!

Are you in such a safe place?

The Holy Bible, which is the Word of God and the truth, tells us in 1st John 5:13: “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.” This means that, when we die, life isn’t over. No! We will not perish, but will have everlasting life in heaven with Jesus, and our loved ones who have gone on before us.

God tells us this in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world [you and me] that He gave His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him would not perish but would have everlasting life.” The key here is for a person to repent of his sins and ask God to forgive his sins in the name of Jesus Christ, who died on the cross as a sacrifice for all our sin!

We must also believe Jesus Christ rose again on the third day and is alive today in heaven with the Father. There are many verses in the Bible that help us to ask God to forgive our sin: First, we must realize we have sin in our life and admit our sin. Romans 3:23 states it this way: “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 6:23 says: “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.” Ephesians 2:8, 9, says: For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith –– and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast.”

When we come to Jesus and admit our sins and ask for forgiveness, it is the grace (love) of God that saves us through our faith, our belief in Jesus Christ. It is not because of our good works, for we can’t work our way to heaven.

However, many would say when asked why God should forgive them and give them His gift of eternal life, that they have done so many good things and they treat their fellow man fairly and deal justly with everyone, love their family and support them, and go to church most every Sunday, so “I deserve to go to heaven — I’ve earned it.”

No! It’s by God’s love and grace through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus, on the cross and His glorious resurrection! We do not deserve God’s grace!

This “Day of the Lord” is coming, and it may not be very far away. Have you put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ?

Do you know for certain that, if you died tonight, you would go to heaven? If you are not sure, then you must confess your sins and belief in Jesus Christ now — don’t wait — it’s too important! Some say: “Oh, I have plenty of time, I’m young and have many years ahead of me.” A man in the Bible once said he had plenty, and all he needed was to eat drink and be merry!

The Lord said: “Thou fool! Tonight thy soul will be required of thee!” The only safe place is in Jesus Christ! Choose Him today! I pray you will.
