Forest Park received the first monthly check for its new recycling program — just over $700 for the first two pick-ups in June.
“We’re really pleased with the response of the residents of Forest Park,” said Edie Yongue, executive director of Keep Forest Park Beautiful, which helped secure grants to publicize the program.
About 4,800 recycling bins were distributed throughout Forest Park, with roughly 21.9 tons of usable recyclables picked up on June 8 and June 11.
“We thought there were going to be a lot of contaminated containers,” said Lesa Hemphill, administrative assistant for Forest Park’s Department of Public Works. “It wasn’t that bad, the ones that were picked up.”
