Stockbridge tennis phenom Taylor Townsend has been named a “Future Game Changer” in the latest Sports Illustrated issue.
Taylor Townsend has been called a “Future Game Changer” by Sports Illustrated.
The 16-year-old tennis phenom from Stockbridge was featured in the most recent magazine issue — which came out Monday — as one of eight teenage athletes destined to be a future star.
“Taylor is athletic and works hard, but her greatest quality is her attitude,” Kathy Rinalidi, Townsend’s coach, told the magazine. “She has a champion’s mentality.”
Townsend’s stock has soared this year, particularly after winning the girls singles and doubles titles at the Australian Junior Open in January. She followed that with a girls doubles title at Wimbledon.
Townsend is currently the No. 1-ranked junior player in the world.
Townsend attends the United States Tennis Association’s training center in Boca Raton, Fla. She enrolled there just one month into her freshman year at Drew High School, where her father, Gary, is the principal.
