Shingleroof Campground in McDonough will host its annual Campmeeting, Friday through July 26.
McDONOUGH — Henry County’s faith community is invited to gather for a long-time tradition of preaching, music and inspiration.
Shingleroof Campground, at 200 Campground Court in McDonough, will host an annual camp meeting, Friday through July 26. Evening services will be held each night, beginning July 20, at 7:45 p.m. Morning services will be held each day, beginning July 21, at 11 a.m.
The camp meeting has been held annually in Henry County since 1830, according to Randy Daniel, a member of the Board of Trustees for the event. Scheduled speakers, he said, include John Ed Mathison, of Montgomery, Ala., and his brother, George Mathison, of Auburn, Ala.
“Millions have seen John Ed Mathison on cable or satellite TV featured on the ACTS Network and Inspiration Network,” said Daniel. “George Mathison is well-known from his Christian motivational talks at many athletic events and served as chaplain for the Auburn University football team.”
The host pastor for the camp meeting will be the Rev. Darris Baker, senior minister at McDonough United Methodist Church. Dana Blackwood, worship leader for the Church of the Apostles in Atlanta, will lead singing for the event, and children’s activities will be coordinated by Amy May.
Middle school and high school activities will be led by David and Amy Voltmer. The camp meeting will feature music from several local church choirs, as well as The Jonesmen, and The Honey Creek Boys. Meals will be served in the Shingleroof Dining Hall each day, at noon and 6 p.m. Call (770) 957-5632 for reservations, or visit http://shingleroof.org.
