The ‘British’ are coming

Beatles tribute band coming to Jonesboro

JONESBORO — “Beatles” in Jonesboro! How did they ever get in?

The land of Rhett and Scarlett is about to experience a “Hard Day’s Night” with an invasion by “John,” “Paul,” “George” and “Ringo.”

Actually, it will be the people who play them on the concert stage.

The City of Jonesboro and a group of the city’s business owners will host a free concert by The Buggs, an Atlanta-based Beatles tribute band July 28, at 7:30 p.m. It will take place at Lee Street Park, located at the corner of Lee Street and Smith Street.

“The British are coming,” said Jonesboro City Councilman Randy Segner, who is organizing the concert.

The group consists of J. Carlos Limon as “John Lennon;” Charles Boehmig as “Paul McCartney;” Larry Harrison as “George Harrison” (no relation) and Ron Burns as “Ringo Starr.” They play only songs by the Beatles, such as “She Loves You,” “Penny Lane,” and “Help!”

Segner said everything about the concert is designed to represent what a Beatles concert would be like in the early-to-mid-1960s. Segner is Boehmig’s second cousin.

“Everything about them is authentic,” he said. “They wear period costumes and play period instruments. It’s an intergenerational event for everyone as they bring the Beatles to Jonesboro.”

Segner said several merchants from around the city chipped in to pay for the concert.
