Mr. Charles “Chuck” Martin Thonen, Jr., of Hampton, passed away on July 27, 2012, at the age of 42. Chuck was a loving husband, father, son and friend to many. His life revolved around his love for his family, and especially his daughter Olivia. He was a generous man with a tender heart who would give others the shirt off his back. He had a soft spot in his heart for animals as well and rescued as many as he possibly could. He had a great sense of humor and was also quite a jokester. Chuck is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Betty and Clarence Thonen; maternal grandparents Helen and Boo Hall; and nephew Braylin Thonen.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Valerie Thonen; daughter and apple of his eye, Olivia Mackenzie Thonen; sister Hazel (Chuck) Carter, of Griffin; brother Steven (Michelle) Thonen, of Senoia; parents Charles and Margaret Thonen, Sr., of Sharpsburg; uncle and aunt Jim and Kathy Hall, of Valley Grove, W.Va.; nieces Danielle, Paige, Shelby, Zoey; nephews Jay, Tanner and Zane; in-laws David and Carol Sparks of Hampton, Ga.; sister-in-law Donna Campbell, of Hampton and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Shannon and Jerry Wood, of Jonesboro.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 31, at 2 p.m. at Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville. The Rev. Floyd Carmack and the Rev. David Sanders will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunny Side Methodist Cemetery. The family received friends on Monday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
