Ashley Nagy had two goals coming into the season — help Union Grove win a state championship and break her own single-season record for goals scored.

Neither happened, but Nagy came close. The Lady Wolverines lost in the Class AAAA semifinals, just a game shy of the state title. And she finished with 37 goals, two short of her record.

Was she disappointed?

“Oh, yes,” Nagy said.

Was the season a failure?

“It was still cool,” Nagy said.

Yes, this laid-back speedy forward destroyed defenses and led the Lady Wolverines to arguably their best season in school history. They finished 17-3-1, ranked No. 4 in Class AAAA by Eurosports.com and No. 14 overall in the state.

Nagy, a co-captain and Georgia State signee, led the way. She had seven hat-tricks, including two 5-goal games and one 4-goal performance. She also added nine assists.

And she helped build Union Grove into one of the top teams in the state.

“I think you can ask anyone,” Nagy said, “they’ll tell you Union Grove is the place to play soccer in Henry County.”
